Comparison of Marketplaces: Disintar and Getgems

7 min

Getgems and Disintar are the first and largest NFT marketplaces on the TON blockchain. Each of them has its own peculiarities. In this article let's break it down:

  1. The history of their formation.
  2. Functionality.
  3. Design and usability.
  4. Positioning of marketplaces.

Becoming a Marketplace

Disintar - the first marketplace

Маркетплейс Disintar

The first marketplace on TON was Disintar. The announcement of the new marketplace took place on January 27, 2022, when the Disintar Telegram channel was born. The TON NFT marketplace was just emerging, it was the time of the launch of collections and the first presales, so the announcement of the marketplace was a landmark event for all investors and funders. And until the first NFT smart contract was created, collection creators were working on projects and investors were exploring the new marketplace.

Two months later, in April, several high-profile events occurred:

  • The release of the NFT Smart Contract;
  • the mint of the Animals Red List collection;
  • announcements of the mint of many NFT projects.

The second event on this list is especially interesting. Where do you think the most popular collection on TON was mined? On Disintar, of course. The red book animals sold out for $2,000,000 if you consider the exchange rate at the time. That moment could be considered the formation of Disintar, the first smart-contract marketplace in TON.

Put in a good word for TON Market

Маркетплейса TON Market

The topic of this article concerns Getgems and Disintar, but if we dive into history, we should also mention TON Market. On March 2, the first post in the Telegram channel of another young marketplace came out. It positioned itself as a place for generative collections and solo works of authorship.

In March, it featured a number of pioneering collections: Tegro Cat, TON RoboTon, TON Duck, etc. But TON Market is not as popular and famous as Disintar. Why?

Disintar "snatched" an ARL and launched a mint collection. Taking into account the popularity and recognizability of the project we can say that this was the best marketing move of all possible.

TON Market launched a collection even though good, but not as well-known as ARL. And then everything went on as usual: the popularity of Disintar was growing, while many users just did not know about the existence of TON Market or did not take it seriously. The Marketplace is not dead and continues to develop to the best of its ability, but its sales are not as great as those of its colleagues.

Getgems - a new hegemon

Маркетплейс Getgems

On February 8, the Getgems channel was created. The start of the marketplace's journey was marked by an intriguing post: "WHEN TON NFT?

GetGems drew the attention of the community largely due to one detail: the verification tick in Telegram. Many people thought then and still think that this is the official marketplace from TON. This is not entirely true. Getgems is a private project, but it is actively supported by the TON Foundation and development teams.

GetGems "slept through" the first NFT boom. Disintar had drawn all the attention of the community to itself and its users went to it. But GetGems took their time and bet on quality. After its launch, the market was gradually improving its functionality, held joint promotions with popular projects, went in for marketing and eventually became the leader in NFT sales on TON. Just as in the proverb: "It takes a long time to harness, but it rides fast".

Functionality of the sites

Marketplaces should not be judged by their popularity and trading volumes alone. Each marketplace has its own functionality, which can determine the choice for funders and users. Let us consider the capabilities of marketplaces in greater detail.

  • Connecting Tonkeeper, Tonhub or Telegram.
  • Sending a transaction to the wallet of the marketplace in the amount of: 0.001 TON.
  • Registration via web extension.

  • Connecting Tonkeeper or Tonhub.

Buying NFT

At both sites purchase is done by sending Toncoin coins via QR code or manually entering the wallet number. Read our guides on how to register and buy NFT: Getgems and Disintar.

Selling NFT

The selling scheme is almost identical for both marketplaces. To get into exactly how the process works, go to another pair of guides we have many: Getgems and Disintar.

Sales commissions are the same: the marketplaces deduct 5% of the sale price + a royalty on the sale amount is charged on the collection itself.

Mint of the single NFT

Immediately we attach the links to the guides on the mint: Getgems and Disintar.

The markets have a difference in royalties: on Getgems you can set the value between 0% and 50%, and on Disintar - from 0% to 15%.

Commissions for mines

Getgems: 0.07 TON + network commission.

Disintar: 0.2 TON + network commission.

Mechanics of Disintar "rooms

Disintar Rooms

A unique thing about Disintar is the mechanics of the rooms and collections in the Disintar Rooms series. You can create your own unique room with its interior and furniture. It will house your collection. Any user will be able to enter the room and look at the NFT and evaluate the room's design.

Analytics from Getgems

Аналитика на Getgems

If you need to analyze the sales of any collection on the blockchain, go to Getgems. In the "History" tab on the NFT-collection page you can see the history of sales, exchanges, price fluctuations, etc. for any period of time. And on the main page of the marketplace there is a ranking of collections by sales volume. Very useful tools when analyzing the market.

Design and usability

Users sometimes blame Disintar for its somewhat outdated design, the dominance of sharp angles in the interface. Design is a matter of taste, of course, functionality and trading volumes come first. However, appearance also affects the choice of users.

If we consider Getgems, it does not cause any special complaints about the design. Minimalism, brevity and good optimization, both on desktops and mobile devices make it a favorite in terms of design and usability. And Getgems is also integrated with Tonkeeper, the most popular TON wallet. Interestingly, some users access the market this way - through the wallet app.

If you look at the dynamics of each marketplace, you can distinguish two things:

GetGems is confidently on its way to holding the position of TOP 1 marketplace in the TON. This is evidenced by the sales volume, convenience and analytical capabilities of the marketplace.

Disintar is going to become a platform for the promotion of digital artists. As the creators themselves say, collections seem to be doing well as it is, but creative people need to be actively helped to enter the world of NFT. If you are one of them and want to try to sell your paintings on blockchain, you're on Disintar.

To sum it up, we want to note that not only Disintar and Getgems marketplaces are limited to the choice of platforms for NFT minting and buying. In addition to the already mentioned TON Market there is TON Diamonds, which positions itself as a market for premium collections. At the same time, there are other players on the way.

So the two main marketplaces in TON should not relax and slow down. On the contrary, build up their competitive advantage so that they do not get lost in the expanse of blockchain. It's up to you which one to choose. It largely depends on your goals.
